Registration for full-day KINDERGARTEN: April 1st and 2nd, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at DeMotte Elementary and Wheatfield Elementary Schools
School will be in session on 2/13, 4/6, 4/24, 5/29, 6/1, and 6/2 to make up for cancellations on 1/7-9, 2/2, 2/19, and 3/3. Any further cancellations will result in the continued extension of the school year.
KVHS TO DEBUT DOCUMENTARY PRODUCED BY
WEST LAFAYETTE SCHOOLS EDUCATION FOUNDATION
The West Lafayette Schools Education Foundation is pleased to announce that its recently completed documentary film by jacklinkproductions on public education in Indiana, titled Rise Above the Mark, will be showcased at Kankakee Valley High School on March 17, at 7:00 PM.
The 65-minute film, narrated by award winning actor and narrator Peter Coyote, documents the effects of corporate reforms on public education across the nation. The account features interviews of nationally known experts such as Dr. Pasi Sahlberg, Ministry of Education in Finland; Dr. Marc Tucker, President and CEO of the National Centre on Education and the Economy; Mr. Jamie Vollmer, author and speaker for public schools; and Dr. Diane Ravitch, former US Assistant Secretary of Education under President George HW Bush. The film also highlights poignant interviews with other supporters of public education around the state and country as well as testimony from teachers on their struggles. The film is intended to serve as a catalyst to educate the public and kindle a dialogue on what parents, community members. and educators can do to protect their local public schools.
The panel will include Mr. Ned Speicher – Superintendent, Rensselaer Central School Corporation;
Mr. Aaron Case – Assistant Superintendent, Kankakee Valley School Corporation; Mrs. Judy Roberts – Teacher, Kankakee Valley High School; and Mrs. Susie Kwiatkowski – Teacher, Kankakee Valley High School.
